David H. Matthews Jr. was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  He grew up in Plato, Missouri along with his brother.  At his home congregation he served in a variety of roles; usher, Sunday School superintendent, and as the youth director. He graduated college in 2020, from Concordia University Nebraska with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. After college he met his wife Rachel, and they were united in holy matrimony in rural Janesville, Minnesota. After getting married David served a year-long vicarage at Trinity Lutheran Church & School, in Reese, Michigan. He and Rachel have been blessed with two daughters: Elizabeth who is twenty-one months old, and Ophelia, who is three months old.  David and Rachel hope to stay here for many years to come.
